Interzoo 2026 and the Case for Clear Pet Hardware Specifications

The Interzoo 2026 closing report says around 2,400 exhibitors and 39,000 trade visitors took part in the May event. Its international reach makes it a useful reminder that pet accessories are developed for different markets, uses and buyer expectations. The show figures do not establish any specific requirement for a leash hook; those requirements must come from the finished product’s design and intended use.

One hardware style can serve different products poorly

A lightweight fashion collar, a daily walking leash and a harness for a larger animal do not necessarily need the same snap hook. Their loads, movement patterns, user handling and exposure to rain or salt differ. The designer should therefore specify the function first: opening force, gate closure, swivel movement, fit with the ring, and the loads or cycles the finished product is expected to withstand.

Dimensions matter at interfaces. A nominal webbing width does not tell the full story if the webbing is thick, folded or stitched near the fitting. State the actual webbing thickness range and how the hardware will be assembled. Test the hook, ring and webbing together, not only as isolated catalog parts.

Make finish choices part of validation

Pet hardware is frequently touched, rubbed against fabric and exposed to moisture. A finish should be selected for the use environment and assessed for more than color. Buyers may need to evaluate corrosion, coating wear, edge smoothness and the risk of staining adjacent materials. A finish that looks consistent on a display sample can perform differently after repeated use.

When more than one color or metal option is offered, keep separate part numbers and approved samples. Do not treat a coating change as merely cosmetic if it can affect clearance or movement.

Turn the trade-show idea into a repeatable product

Before approving production, request a drawing, material and finish description, functional checks, and a method for identifying approved revisions. Ask the supplier to highlight any assumption that remains open. This reduces the chance that two attractive samples become two inconsistent production lots.

The Metal Hardware Buyer Guides outline the specifications that help turn product ideas into comparable hardware quotations. For a new leash or harness project, share the assembled product drawing and intended use alongside the hardware drawing.
